SHABWAT (𐩦𐩨𐩥𐩩) brings a finely patterned round composition to a pale blue face. Dark South Arabian letterforms mark the hours, drawing the eye from the outer edge into the dense artwork at the center.
The design takes inspiration from funerary artwork associated with Hadramut, Yemen. Its use of letters as hour markers reflects an intriguing feature of Old South Arabian writing: some characters could serve as both letters and numbers. Here, script and image share the task of giving the clock its character.
